Assorted Collection 51 - Various Metal Artists

Metal minions! Embrace yourself for impact! We have curated a brutal assortment of metallic sounds for our first pod of the month of March. Get the heads up on new album releases for the month of March and even April! That’s right, you heard it here first! We honor the steel, embrace the brutal and pay tribute to those who have left their mark. For the best in international metal pick up one of our assorted shows and discover a new band, today!

Make a trip back to the (bloody) roots of extreme music, and be reminded why you got into heavy music in the first place. Check out extreme metallers from Turkey SEAL OF SOLOMON and the track “Story of a Prophet” from the band’s new album I, THE KING out on Wormhole Death Records!

Inspired by Conan the Barbarian movies (incidentally, the band’s singer goes by the moniker of Conan-by the way), shred guitar and everything heavy metal, we present another steel crafted track from the band EXMORTUS from their most novel release SLAVE TO THE SWORD. Crank up the track “Foe Hammer”.

CARNIFEX have released to the brutal masses their new album entitled DIE WITHOUT HOPE this month of March. After cranking the album, we mostly concur with the critics are saying about the album, “…they are writing from their hearts and deathcore is what happens to come out, not what they are intentionally writing towards…Die Without Hope is exactly that, deathcore.”-Metal Injection. So, we respectfully couldn't pick a better track from the album, check out “Hatred and Slaughter”.

THE DEVIL PUT DINOSAURS HERE, and he also got ALICE IN CHAINS writing music again! The veteran rockers of the heyday of grunge return with their new lead vocalist William DuVall to display again their quality. ALICE IN CHAINS maintain their sludgy sounding guitars, phantasmagoric melodies and dark lyrics in THE DEVIL PUT DINOSAURS HERE. We recommend the complete album, but could only feature the track “Stone” for this podcast.

HAMMER OF THE WITCH from RINGWORM is a f-ckin’ good album! Fast and vicious; you won’t be able to put it down. The press raves on, “…everything you love about the brutalest, viciousest metal infused hardcore legends continues without missing a step.”-Noise Magazine. We simply say that RINGWORM’s music is the only parasite we allow to live in our ears!

INTERNATIONAL METAL ALLEGIANCE will be the title of our first digital cd compilation which we are working in collaboration with ONLINE METAL PROMO. The album will feature an international cast of metal bands in addition to the bands on the agency. To give you a taste of bitter metal on your tongues we present the bands ZEPHANIAH and LORDS OF THE TRIDENT. The first, an over the top; skillful shred addicts; power metal power house is ZEPHANIAH with a track from their album gospel STORIES OF THE BOOK OF METAL. The second, LORDS OF THE TRIDENT are show cased with a track from third release PLAN OF ATTACK. This is a US power metal band that combines both the classic with the modern in heavy metal. The press comments on the EP, “It’s four tracks of non-stop hook after hook, classic heavy metal…enjoy this 21 minutes and 47 seconds of hard-as-steel!”-Metal Archives.

Just as we have showcased a song from the new ALICE IN CHAINS it arrived to us another press kit from our friends at Wormhole Death records. We were expecting at first another kick ass extreme band; however, that was not the case. As the first seconds of track one begun with an acoustic low tuned intro followed by power sludge guitars; we instantly had the feeling -and were transported to the age of grunge-. Bewildered by the innate heaviness and somehow reminiscing on what we were hearing, we arrived to the conclusion that we had stumbled onto something that is not heard often nowadays. It was the Norwegian band ANGERMAN, and their debut album NO TEARS OF THE DEVIL. It was a long time coming for a band to capture the essence of grunge and fusion it with metal. The band call their music GRM, grunge-rock-metal, and the band play it intrinsically.  Refreshing to the ear and reminiscing to the brain ANGERMAN will debut as a definite alternative from today’s common sounds.

We have just recently discovered the music of Italian extreme metal act REALITY GREY, and enjoyed very much the band’s sophomore release DEFINE REDEMPTION which will be available this April 15 through the Baker Team Records. This is really great heavy music that has a very modern sound. An album and band to look out for this year! Crank up the track “Departed Designs” in this podcast!

How about some “Blackjazz” from Norway? Coming from the land infamous for the black metal genre we present a new concept which fusions metal and jazz music directly. SHINING is a jazz-metal band that redefined their own genre of metal called Blackjazz. The band will make their Prosthetic Records debut with ONE ONE ONE the follow up to the BLACKJAZZ album this May 28. Check out the track “The Hurting Game” form the album and listen to the saxophone solo!

Mini tribute to DANZIG and THE MISFITS! Glenn Danzig vocalist for DANZIG and original founder of the MISFITS is featured with a couple tracks. From the album DANZIG 4 (1994), we have the track “Going Down to Die”; and from his time with the MISFITS the track “Die, Die My Darling”. THE MISFITS carry on their legacy now under the command of Jerry Only. We feature a track from the album THE DEVIL’S RAIN (2011).

Colombian extreme metallers T-Machines are featured with a track from their debut release DOOMED out now on Digmetalworld Records. T-Machines is the side project of Juancho Gomez, guitar player of the Colombian metal band MASACRE.

Described as an" old-school approach to hardcore...delving back into the music of Gorilla Biscuits and American Nightmare" (Metal Hammer), the band POLAR make their Prosthetic Records debut with the album SHADOWED BY VULTURES available this April 15. Crank up the first single from the album entitled “Glass Cutter” in this podcast.

Since the OPPOSITE FROM WITHIN (2004) album, I’ve lost track of German metalcore band CALIBAN. I really enjoyed the albums VENT (2001) and SHADOW HEARTS (2003) from the band. I think it’s been now almost ten years since those records and the band has been releasing album after album; singing from Roadrunner to now Century Media. The year is 2014 and CALIBAN have released their ninth studio album entitled GHOST EMPIRE. I always had a place for CALIBAN in my personal music collection, but it is now time to get back into their music. Featured in the podcast is the song “I Am Ghost” another example of the great musicianship and sense for melodic hooks in the songs from CALIBAN. After this, I’ll definitely give the albums in between from THE OPPOSITE FROM WITHIN to GHOST EMPIRE a listen. Above all, they’re still a great band!

Like we said at the beginning, we embrace the brutal! Two great new bands featured in the podcast are KHAOZ and INSAIN.

KHAOZ is a old-school Dutch death metal band formed by members of Sinister, Pleurisy, The Embodiment, Houwitser and Dead Head. The album is called I, CREATOR OF DAMNATION released this Jan 24. The song extracted for the podcast is Crimson Mind.

Beware Brutal Death Metal fans: your Universe features a new deadlier spot on the map, way beyond the stellar remnants there is the band INSAIN! Featured is the new album ENLIGHTENING THE UNKNOWN out this March 11 is the band's brutal dose of black matter transforming the laws of gravity into a singularity distorting space and time and attracting everything around bringing all that is darkness to a stellar chaos!

One of the most exciting modern metal bands out there is REVOCATION. The band returns with their fourth full-length and most mind-blowingly impressive self-titled album to the date. Check out the track “Invidious” for the podcast!

Okay, we admit it took us a while to release the March podcast, but take our word for it only quality bands worth your listen are featured. So, enjoy and keep supporting independent metal!

Assorted Collection 50 - Various Metal Artists

Thick as blood and heavy as iron, February brought us some impressive new bands and fresh releases from reputable and infamous metal labels of the realm of heavy kick ass-distorted-ear-shattering music! We are left with a feeling of satisfaction and expectation of what is coming ahead in the following month.

We have already started scouting bands for the best of the year show, and have included in this Podcast some candidates that you should definitely look up. Artists that will surely stir some waves for the rest of the year will be THEY MIGHT BE ZOMBIES (US) and their much anticipated debut, GRENOUER (Russia) and their album BLOOD ON THE FACE, UNDECIMBER (Sweden) with their Feb 14 mega goth record DEAD INSIDE; and extreme metallers NOCTEM's March 3 release for the album EXILIUM; featured a brand new track from the album because you heard it here first! We will definitely have a full review of the album, but in the mean time, check out our interview with EXO for the previous record by clicking here

Thrashers always invited over to hang and piss in our toilet! NAPALM STORM is a vicious Spanish thrash band from Zaragoza, and they are featured with a track from their album HARMLESS CRUELTY; also to piss all over our religious neighbors' rug!

We have been inspired lately by fast music, booze, gorgon creatures and ramming devices; for instance, RAMMING SPEED! This is a killer band with a killer record called DOOMED TO DESTROY, DESTINED TO DIE and precisely that's how we begin this podcast; ramming one of their songs
into your ears!

Joey Jordison-did he quit Slipknot or not? Hmm...you have to listen to his latest musical creation called SCAR THE MARTYR. Jordison has stated that this band is everything he ever wanted in a band, musically. The song featured is pretty kick ass, and the record is not bad, that really depends whether or not SLIPKNOT will get off their maggot asses and put the masks on for another album!

So much hype has been stirred up by the most novel release from Valencia, Spain's extreme metallers NOCTEM. EXILIUM is ready for its official release this March 3 thru Art Gate Records that will also include the world premiere of a new music video. But of course, you already knew that, you have been tuning in to the Podcast. So, for being such a good listener of our humble metal show, we have another exclusive track from the album, Decrepit Human Kingdom, enjoy!

SAWTHIS is a modern thrash metal band  from Italy that has been abusing the live stages of Europe since  their first official release in 2003. The band has supported several international metal acts such as Lacuna Coil, Entombed, Sepultura, etc. Check out a track from the latest album YOUNIVERSE. *I honestly thought they were from Sweden; but that is not the case, and I'm not a redneck mormon missionary either.

It's time to officially welcome the label XTREEM MUSIC to the Podcast, and for the label's debut on the show we highlight two brutal acts. The first, PHOBOS PREACHER a band also from Zaragoza, Spain *I have just noticed that we have several Spanish bands on this show. The story behind this band is that it is a band made from the break up of two bands who merged to make a new project. After winning the Kolonorock
(Sancho Abarca, Zaragoza) battle of the bands in 2012 the band recorded their debut album HUMANOS under DOWNMUSIC/IZKAR PRODUCCIONES in 2013. Featured in this pod is the track "La Perdicion" or Perdition.

The second, are the French veterans of death metal MERCYLESS in existence since 1987. The band without a doubt are experienced veterans of brutality. They have been the support for international bands such as MORGOTH, TIAMAT, SAMAEL, UNLEASHED, CANNIBAL CORPSE, OBITUARY and even legendary band DEATH! The list goes on for these brutal masters. After almost 13 years into their hiatus the band regrouped and recorded a comeback record UNHOLY BLACK SPLENDOR under Trendkill Recordings in 2013. Check out the track God is Dreaming from this album in the
podcast.

Goth metallers UNDECIMBER are featured with another blood soaked track entitled Three Pages from Hell from the bands FEB 14 release, DEAD INSIDE available through DOWNFALL RECORDS. UNDECIMBER is a band you have got to get your vampire fangs into!

Inspired by the atmospheric sounds of bands such as Rammstein, Depeche Mode, Joy Division and Deathstars the band RUBLOOD make their industrial/goth/metal debut on the show. Featured the track Heart from the band's debut STAR VAMPIRE.

Viking metallers AMON AMARTH will drink with you in Valhalla and raise a glass to the fallen warriors of Norse mythology. In the podcast, the track Guardians of Asgaard from the album TWILIGHT OF THE THUNDER GOD, 2008.

Female fronted band CADAVERIA from Italy are featured with a track from their HORROR METAL, 2013 album available through BAKERTEAM RECORDS. In existence since 2003, the quintet have toured all over Italy, France, Mexico, Spain and Romania. Available now is the band's retrospective Double DVD entitled KARMA under SCARLET RECORDS.

Controversial pagan musician Varg Vikerness' project BURZUM is featured with a track from the 1996 release FILOSOFEM. Varg has stated in several interviews that he  does not agree of Burzum being labeled as "Black Metal". Varg prefers the term  Heavy Metal or better as "Scaldic Metal".  We would like to coin it as depressive shoe-gaze black metal, or something. You make up your own labels, don't copy ours!

Critics say that NORMA JEAN's new record WRONGDOERS, 2013 as setting themselves apart.  The
record sounds like a debut, hits like a veteran and commands like a champion.  We would agree that the band keeps on sounding novel, and that they keep on being magnets to your ears. Check out the track Hive Minds in the podcast.

Relapse Records present in this podcast the band WEEKEND NACHOS from Chicago. I would like to share with you a funny story. I was making the playlist for the podcast, and my girl was doing her college work while listening to how I was picking the bands for the show. I usually start by just throwing songs into a Winamp playlist, and usually play the songs in different order arrangements to feel which song would sound better after the other. The thing is that when I hear her make certain remarks that sometimes surprise her
while listening to my playlist; I would usually think, "hey, that works!", and save the particular order of the songs. Since she is caught up with her college work, a reaction to a song being played that interrupts her mindset or mood is when I know the song progression is good. Well, her remark when hearing the song from WEEKEND NACHOS was, "hey, that sounds weird, what is the name of the band?". I promptly quoted, "WEEKEND NACHOS", she replied, "huh, what did you say, how can such great music have a stupid name like that, let me guess; they're Americans, right?" I answered, "yup, you got it honey." She replied, "Ha! I knew it. It had to be some spoiled dumb Americans who can call themselves NACHOS!" She continued with her argument, "They might as well call themselves TACO BELL or some sh-t like that! What a lack of creativity, they had to be Americans!" She concluded, "Naw, I'm not interested anymore, stop playing such stupid bands on your show!" I tried to justify the name by adding that they were signed to RELAPSE, and that they had severed heads on their album covers, and Freddy Kruger mascots on their merchandise. I even tried to defend the WEEKEND NACHOS' name by stating to her that they were genre ground breakers; powerviolence/sludge metal. In the end, nothing I would say to defend the NACHOS gave them an inch of metal respect in my girl's feminine metal mindset. I will conclude stating that metal, and all the ape sh-t crazy antics that we men consider as cool is thanks to testosterone! Alas, check out the song Satan Sucker from WEEKEND NACHOS from their Relapse Records release, STILL.

So here you have it. Another assorted collection of brutal sounds, novel releases, and Taco Bell induced metal to wrap up the month of February; good riddance and enjoy!
